Regional Initiatives in India

JCoR facilitates capacity-building workshops and collective advocacy efforts among its member congregations and our partners in South, North and West India. Our activities build upon the common ground and prophetic call of all charisms: to bring about the reign of God through work toward the common good.

Criteria for Participation

Because collaboration among congregations is an essential element of our effort to contribute in a new way to long-term systemic change, JCoR workshops are open to members of all congregations of Catholic women and men Religious who are present in India, and we seek to have representatives from as many congregations as possible. This approach allows for ongoing relationship building among congregations and between our common Mission and the effective implementation of the SDGs. Lay partners who work closely with Religious in their ministries are also invited to apply.

The following criteria will guide selection of participants for each workshop:

– Experience and interest in social concerns: An understanding of congregational priorities addressed through your social service institutions will be useful. Those involved in such programmes with communities through outreach, documentation, or planning will be able to gain most from the programme.

– Language proficiency: English is the preferred language of communication at the workshop. There must be a minimum one member in the team fluent in English reading, writing, and speaking.

– Diversity of skills: A team of three members from a congregation will be ideal to ensure that the learning is shared and utilised beyond the training. If possible, an effective congregation team will include at least one person who is knowledgeable of justice and peace work and one who is knowledgeable of communications work.

– Availability: Participants will require the freedom to attend a three-day meeting in their selected state and to dedicate time throughout the following year for monthly online engagement with their regional Coordinator and fellow workshop participants as well as a follow-up meeting at the end of the year. Communication and collaboration with members of other their own communities, other local congregations, and our team at the United Nations to enact justice campaigns.

Costs of Participation

All participants will be asked to cover the costs of their transportation to and from dialogues or other in-person meetings. The Coalition will cover all other expenses.
