Collaboration at the UN

All of JCoR’s member organizations have formal accreditation with the United Nations Headquarters in New York, either through the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) or Department of Global Communications (DGC). This accreditation allows us to participate actively in certain UN conferences and discussions. It also empowers us to communicate directly with governments’ Permanent Representatives to the UN.

Two of the primary ways in which we are able to participate in UN processes are by submitting written statements or sponsoring events on the margins of UN conferences and meetings. In order to improve our efficiency and to strengthen our influence on the UN system, the members of JCoR have begun to jointly submit statements and jointly sponsor events on justice and peace issues of great concern to us all.

As our regional workshops move forward and inter-congregational networks become more established in Latin America and the Caribbean, in East and Southern Africa, and in India, it is envisioned that future statements, events, and other communication with government representatives delivered by JCoR’s representatives at the UN will be increasingly informed by and comprised of the testimonies, messages, and priorities put forth by our members’ local and national justice campaigns.
