Description: Following over two decades of negotiations, the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007. It outlines the individual and collective rights of indigenous peoples, including their rights to land, culture, identity, language, employment, health, and education. Four Indigenous women from Ecuador, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, and Peru will present the challenges they face as Indigenous women in the implementation of these rights and best practices in their actualization

Violation of the Human Right to Water in the Amazon: Impacts on Indigenous Peoples, the Environment, and the Implementation of UNDRIP

Description: This event will discuss the impacts of water and environmental degradation on indigenous peoples, highlighting the need to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) in member states and within the United Nations system. The session will feature testimonies from indigenous leaders, human rights and environmental experts, and representatives of international organizations.
