Joint Action for Environmental Justice: Tree Planting in Zimbabwe (December 2024 – February 2025)

The JCoR network in Zimbabwe continues to focus its efforts on SDG 13 (on climate change) as it sustains the implementation of its tree planting project. This initiative concentrates on youth, teaching young people to relate to nature and care for the environment. The network facilitated awareness-raising talks and organized the preparation and planting of fruit trees and wind-breaking trees (1,000 in total). Following the tree planting, the network also taught participants how to identify the causes of deforestation and dryness in the region. In addition to the activities focused on engaging with youth, the project also involved leading awareness-raising sessions for Religious community members on the topics of the environment, climate change, and care for Creation. The following congregations participated in the tree-planting and awareness-raising initiatives: the Franciscans, Claretians, Presentation Sisters, Our Lady of Sorrows, Mary Ward in Gokwe, Carmelites, Dominicans, International Medical Association Sisters, and Missionaries of Mariannhill.
